Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)

Luxury vinyl tile flooring, or LVT as it is also known, is a practical and stylish flooring solution that became popularised in the 1970s. Today, thanks to advancements in printing technology and realistic designs, it serves as one of the most sought-after flooring types for homeowners.

What is LVT Flooring?

LVT flooring is normally made up of PVC layers. Its main purpose is to replicate authentic materials such as wood, stone, marble, and slate without the cost and strenuous maintenance whilst feeling softer and more comfortable underfoot. Luxury vinyl tiles are made up of both a photographic layer which is the aesthetic layer, as well as other protective and foundation layers. The rest of their construction consists of a backing layer for installation, a core layer to help with structural integrity, and a protective wear layer for scratches, scuffs, and stains.

Installing Luxury Vinyl Floor Tiles

There are two types of luxury vinyl tile when it comes to fitting – LVT click flooring and glue down LVT. But what’s the difference?

LVT Click Flooring – As the name suggests, these tiles interlock or ‘click’ together in order to fit seamlessly on your floor. No adhesive, nails, or glue are necessary, so fitting is easy if you’re an amateur when it comes to DIY. Not only this, but there is no drying time, so once installed, the space where your new vinyl floor tiles have been installed will be ready to use.

Glue Down LVT – For this type of luxury vinyl tile, a specific adhesive must be applied to the subfloor before installation. Glue down luxury vinyl tiles are seen as a more permanent flooring solution as they are securely fixed rather than ‘floating’ like click and lock LVT. Check out our LVT adhesive here.
